PDO Lifting Threads

What are Lifting Threads?
Avaderm PDO Lifting Bio-Threads are an advanced, non-surgical treatment designed to lift, tighten and support the skin’s structure. Using medical-grade polydioxanone (PDO) threads (a material used in surgical sutures) this treatment stimulates the skin’s natural repair process to improve firmness, elasticity and contour.
Lifting threads have tiny barbs that anchor under the skin to gently reposition and elevate sagging tissue. They provide an immediate lifting effect along with long-term collagen stimulation, offering more structural definition and contouring for the cheeks, jawline or neck.
PDO threads form a supportive framework beneath the skin, creating an immediate, subtle lift while encouraging your body to produce fresh collagen and elastin for months after treatment.
How it works
Each thread is carefully placed beneath the skin in a specific direction or “vector” to reposition and support tissue. The lift you see straight after treatment comes from gentle mechanical tension created by the threads. Over time, as the PDO material dissolves naturally, it leaves behind newly formed collagen that continues to firm and strengthen the area.
Bio-Threads™ are inserted via a fine needle or cannula, with the procedure taking around 60 minutes.
The results of polydioxanone thread lifting can last 12 to 24 months, gradually softening over time as the threads dissolve and new collagen maintains structure.
Recent studies classify thread-lift techniques by thread type, length and placement, showing that results depend on selecting the correct thread and vector for each individual. At Skinsational, every treatment plan is tailored precisely to your anatomy and skin goals.
Individual results may vary depending on age, skin condition, and lifestyle factors, and as with all advanced procedures, side effects and complications may occur. These will be discussed thoroughly during your consultation to ensure you’re well informed and supported throughout your treatment journey.
Who it’s for

PDO Lifting Threads are best suited to those experiencing mild to moderate skin laxity - for example, early sagging around the cheeks, jawline or jowls, and who wish to enhance facial definition without invasive surgery.
Thread lifting is an advanced medical treatment, suitability must be carefully assessed by our experienced cosmetic nursing team. During your consultation, we’ll evaluate your skin health, volume distribution and tissue support to determine if PDO lifting threads are right for you, or if an alternative approach may be more effective.
Safety and Scientific Support
PDO thread technology is supported by clinical literature demonstrating its effectiveness in collagen stimulation and tissue rejuvenation. Studies highlight its ability to improve skin elasticity while offering a safer, less invasive alternative to surgical lifting procedures.
At Skinsational Cosmetic Nursing, your safety is our top priority. We use only Avaderm PDO Threads — a TGA-approved medical device manufactured in South Korea to the highest international standards. The device is entered in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG ID 355890) and is CE 2195, ISO 13485, and GMP certified, reflecting its compliance with strict global safety and quality benchmarks.
With over 26 million units sold worldwide and trusted by practitioners in hundreds of clinics across Australia, Avaderm PDO Threads are among the most widely used and clinically supported lifting threads available. Each thread is made from premium medical-grade materials and is clinically validated for safety, consistency, and performance.
According to a recent review of literature:
“Polydioxanone is a biocompatible material strong enough to lift tissues and hold them in place; it is also known to degrade slowly allowing for fibroblast migration and stimulation of collagen [13]. Their long-term liking effect is theoretically maintained by the development of a fibrous capsule around each barbed suture and adhesion to adjacent dermis and subcutaneous tissues, as well as by localized contraction of myofibroblasts throughout the degradation process of the material [4]”.

PDO Mono threads are smooth, fine threads inserted in a mesh-like pattern under the skin. Their primary goal is skin rejuvenation — improving texture, firmness and elasticity rather than physically lifting tissue. They’re ideal for crepey or lax skin, especially in the lower face, neck or décolletage, and can also be used to refine areas like the forehead, upper lip and abdomen.
PDO Threads are inserted into the sub dermal level, in a mesh-like pattern, to promote the creation of new collagen. The threads activate collagen synthesis which produces a gradual skin thickening, skin tightening and rejuvenation effect of improving skin texture. The threads become a support structure (a bit like scaffolding on a building) that allows collagen production to increase. This provides the skin with a tighter feel and appearance and more of a youthful look.
Results may be seen in 6 weeks and will continue to improve over a few months. While the threads slowly dissolve, their effects may last up to 12 months.
The treatment itself generally only takes about 15-30 minutes, depending on the area we are treating however you will be required to come in 30 minutes prior to treatment for topical anaesthetic to be applied, to ensure you feel minimal discomfort during the treatment.

-
